Tradition

Formation and history of the company

We trace our roots back to the Recheninstitut im Bauwesen, (R i B) which was founded in the early 1960s by Prof. Dr.-Ing. V. Hahn, Prof. Dr.-Ing. h.c. F. Leonhardt and Prof. Dr.-Ing. F.W. Bornscheuer. The Recheninstitut im Bauwesen was an independent institute for technical and commercial data processing that established a reputation for developing computer programs for use in the construction industry.

Historically, our products have evolved from structural planning construction software to technical ERP business suite for the construction market and then to a fully integrated software for planning and construction. Over the next few years, we will seek to become a leading provider of digital software processes to the construction industry on a global basis.

Our predecessor entities have evolved through the years and we were organised as a German limited liability company (GmbH) in 1973. On 7 October 1999, the Company was incorporated as a corporation (Aktiengesellschaft AG) in Germany as RIB Software AG with a registered share capital of EUR 4 million and was registered with the Commercial Register of the local court (Amtsgericht) of Stuttgart on 12 November 1999.

We believe we had become a leading provider of software solutions to the construction industry in Germany by 2002. We had developed our own sales distribution network for Germany and began marketing to customers outside of Germany in 2002. In 2004, we made our initial investment for the establishment of a software development centre in China.

In 2005, we entered into an outsourcing arrangement with TWO Hong Kong under which TWO Hong Kong provides us with software design implementation and programming services through its wholly owned Chinese subsidiary, Guangzhou TWO. This work is carried out according to the specifications and instructions compiled at our main office in Germany.

In 2009, SAP AG and Hasso Plattner Ventures II GmbH & Co. KG each acquired 7.15% of our Shares.

In late 2009 and 2010, we continued our international expansion and opened 10 new field offices, 3 in the United States, 2 in China, and 1 office each in Dubai, India, Singapore and one in Australia and Hong Kong. Together with our existing international offices in the UK and the Czech Republic, we have 12 offices in total outside Germany.

In October 2009, we launched the German version of RIB iTWO business suite, our new software solution for digital construction, enabling virtual execution planning and control of construction projects and simulation of manufacturing and maintenance processes.

We launched the English version of RIB iTWO  in April 2010 and the Chinese version of RIB iTWO  in simplified characters in July 2010.
